Presents guidance on the selection, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus with protection by enclosure, used outside dust-handling equipment where combustible dust may be present in quantities that could lead to a fire or explosion hazard. Not applicable to explosive materials or to electrical apparatus used in mines susceptible to firedamp nor an emission of flammable gas or vapour from the dust. Recommendations are based on the electrical apparatus being able to operate safely under a dust layer having a maximum thickness of 5 mm. Not relevant to electrical apparatus within dust handling equipment.
