Defines electrical equipment of safety systems used in nuclear power plants, including components or equipment of any interface where failure could adversely affect the performance of the safety system. Applicable to non-electrical interfaces associated with a safety function. Covers the general qualification process, procedures and methods to be used and the associated documentation. Establishes different quality programmes at various levels; qualification, design, installation, maintenance and periodic testing, and production quality control, dealing only with the qualification aspects. Requires strict control to ensure that subsequent equipment of the same type matches the qualification, that is applied, installed, maintained and periodically tested.
