Applicable to optical fibre amplifiers (OFAs) that use active fibres that contain rare-earth dopants, presently available commercially. The aim of this standard is to establish uniform needs for reliable and accurate measurements, by means of the optical spectrum analyzer test method, of the following OFA parameters, which are defined in clause 3 of IEC 61291-1: a) nominal output signal power; b) large-signal output stability; c) saturation output power; d) maximum input signal power; e) maximum output signal power; f) input power range; g) output power range; h) maximum total output power.
