This report marks a milestone in the actual comprehension of the complex phenomenon called "voltage collapse" in power transmission systems. It offers an in-depth survey of our present knowledge about this typical system disturbance, restricting the analysis to the so-called "long-term" variant, the one for which it seems most feasible to develop some sort of system protection to cope with.
