Describes a number of methods applicable to the measurement of the thickness of paint coatings applied to a substrate. Can be adopted for the measurement of the thickness or detached coatings. Covers normative references, required supplementary information, number and location of test areas, determination of dry film thickness by calculation from the ratio of dry film mass to dry film thickness, measurement of dry film thickness by the micrometer method, by the dial gauge method, by the profilometric method, by microscope, by non-destructive instrumental methods and measurement of wet film thickness.
