The UK did not support this standard at the CEN Enquiry stage and voted against its acceptance at Formal Vote stage. The objectionswere: a) 4.1 requires that the remainder shall be water but there is no test method for water content and the remainder will also include traces of impurities; b) 4.2 requires aldehyde content but 5.2.2.1 method will determine acetaldehyde only; c) 5.2.2.1, the method for determination of acetaldehyde there is no mention of the stationary phase concentration.Applies to synthetic ethanol used for the treatment of water meant for human consumption. It gives the characteristics, requirements and corresponding test methods for synthetic ethanol.
