Gives engineering and safety requirements for escalators and passenger conveyors. Suitable for escalators with connected steps and driven by chains. But types may be adopted with the same standard of safety. Applies to passenger conveyors when platforms interconnected by chains or other suitable means, and provided with grooves on the thread surface in the direction of travel and continuous endless belts with longitudinal grooves formed on the thread surface. Deals with limits of speed, width and angle of inclination and methods of assessing contract loading, guarding, handrails, steps or belts, driving machinery and safety devices. Includes potential hazards to users.
