The methods described in the DIN 53217 series of standards serve to determine the density of paints, varnishes and similar coating materials (except for powder coatings; cf. DIN 55990 Part 3)1). Unless otherwise specified, the method to be used is subject to agreement and shall be selected to suit the properties of the material concerned. To comply with the stipulations of the Fertigpackungsverordnung (German Finished Packages Regulation), verified equipment shall be used (cf. Explanatory notes).
