The test method specified serves to determine the adhesion that can be achieved when rubber is vulcanized to rigid materials, the test piece used consisting of two cylinders with conical ends, joined by a cylinder of rubber. Adhesion is obtained by a bonding system which may include not only the material of the conical ends and the rubber, but other elements such as thin alloy coatings or chemical treatments of the ends, single cements, or primer and cover cements.
