Gives advice for the selection, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus to be used in areas where flammable material(s) are processed, generated, stored, handled, or otherwise encountered which could lead to explosive atmospheres. Relates to the precautions that are needed to avoid ignition of an explosive atmosphere resulting from electrical sparks and arcs, hot surfaces or frictional sparks from electrical installations and apparatus. Applies to all new permanent installations and (where reasonably practicable) to changes to installations complying with earlier standards. The maintenance recommendations apply to all installations. Installation that are semi-permanent or temporary are covered by the recommendations.
