Applicable to general purpose adjustable speed a.c. drive systems including power conversion, control equipment and an a.c. motor or motors. Does not include traction and electrical vehicle drives. Provides the characteristics of the converters and their relationship with the complete a.c. drive system. In addition, it gives their performance requirements regarding ratings, normal operating and overload conditions, surge withstand capabilities, stability protection, a.c. line earthing and testing. In addition, it covers application guidelines, eg control strategies, diagnostics and topologies.
