Describes general requirements for all types of intravascular catheter and their ancillary devices, supplied in the sterile condition and intended for single use. They include, but are not limited to, angiographic catheters, balloon dilatation catheters, catheters for use with implantable infusion/access ports, central venous catheters, embolectomy catheters, flow-directed balloon catheters, guiding catheters, irrigation catheters, and thrombectomy catheters. The devices covered include, dilators, guide wires, introducer cannulae, introducer needles, valves and connectors and winged infusion needles. Does not apply to intravascular cannula units or epidural catheters.
