Dust, under certain conditions, may ignite causing a fire or an explosion. One cause of the ignition of dust is due to contact with a hot surface. For this reason it is important to know the minimum temperature that will cause dust to ignite. The standard describes two methods for determining the minimum ignition temperature of dust: Method A - Dust layer on a heated surface at a constant temperature; Method B - Dust cloud in a furnace at a constant temperature.
