Presents the UK 7-bit coded character set derived from ISO 7-bit coded character set described in ISO 646. Describes character set for use in UK, including control characters, letters, digits, punctuation signs, coded representation of each character, functional characteristics of control characters of the set and graphical representations for control characters. Designed for interchange of information, between data processing systems and for message transmission systems. Makes provision for direct representation of 128 characters, and gives facilities for code extension when its 128 characters are insufficient. ISO 646-1983 is reproduced in full in appendix A.
